Our Rentals manager Victoria John is keen to have a chat with you if you own a rental property. A member of the Association of Residential Letting Agents, Victoria knows all about the latest legislation impacting landlords. She tells us about her role with Payton Jewell Caines.
You’ve got a busy job with over 600 rental properties to manage…
You could say that! I’ve always had a passion for property so I jumped at the chance to join Payton Jewell Caines in 2013. I love my job and there is nothing else that I would rather do. The rentals market is highly competitive and the introduction of increased legislation means that our landlords really value the help and advice that we provide. If they sleep easy at night then so do I.
Do you have a team to support you?
Yes, I work closely with our Rentals Director Sara Hawkins. Sara and I lead a team of 7 people. This includes our highly efficient administration and property management teams. Our landlords always know that they can trust us to fill their properties and then manage any tenant or maintenance issues professionally.
What advice do you give people thinking about investing in rental properties?
Only ever rent out a property that you would live in yourself. It needs to be well presented with a clean and modern kitchen and bathroom. Landlords that take good care of their properties are rewarded with longer-term tenants who will look after the property. Not only are you protecting the value of your investment; you are helping to make sure that you get a good tenant.
What should tenants look for when renting?
Always choose an agent that is a member of Propertymark and make sure that fees are explained upfront. You don’t want any hidden charges! We are here to help so please ask if you have any questions.
What other benefits do you offer landlords?

And if you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?
I’m a big rugby fan and I love enjoying good food and wine with family and friends. Although I have to say that there isn’t much time for anything but work at the moment!
