Every Halloween, we run a staff incentive called ‘Pimp My Pumpkin’. All staff are given the task to carve and decorate a pumpkin and the top four are then put to our social media audience, to vote for a winner.
Karon Quirke, manager of our Neath branch, won with her spectacular Cancer charity themed pumpkin and was awarded £50 vouchers and an extra day’s annual leave to go Christmas shopping.
Karon approached our board of directors to see if she could convert her prize into £150 Asda vouchers and donate them to someone local, who has been affected by this terrible illness.
Karon straightaway decided to donate her £150 vouchers to Kayley Sullivan after seeing this heart-breaking Facebook post.
Kayley was over the moon when Karon told her she would be receiving £150 vouchers to help with the upcoming Christmas period. “Thank you so much Karon, it really would be such a massive help. I don’t work anymore due to how advanced my cancer is. It would really help us and I don’t know what to say, apart from thank you”.
Payton Jewell Caines has four branches across South Wales, and ‘PJC in the community’ is an ongoing initiative where we support and help as many local clubs, causes and charities as possible. Witnessing Karon do something so thoughtful on her own accord, has proven how kind natured and special she is.
“As it was a voucher prize, I really wanted to support an individual rather than donate it to a cancer charity. Although I understand that without the big charities, people affected by cancer wouldn’t have the support they need, I felt it would help more if I donated it to a local individual” Karon explained.
Kayley has spent the vouchers with a massive Christmas food shop for her and her entire family and couldn’t thank Karon enough. “Thank you, thank you, thank you… Me and mum were in tears at the till thinking how nice and kind of you giving myself and my family your gift card”.
Karon, it was a very kind and special thing you’ve done for a very brave lady in our community. We are so proud of the outstanding act of kindness you have shown this Christmas. You’re a star!
Merry Christmas everyone and we hope Kayley, her family and the rest of you – have a very special Christmas.
