WHAT MAKES A GREAT LETTING AGENT?
John Caines, Managing Director of Payton Jewell Caines gives his view on what you should look for when selecting a letting agent to manage your rental property
The increased burden of legislation as a result of the introduction of Rent Smart Wales means that many landlords in Wales are now choosing to appoint an agent to manage rental properties on their behalf. It saves time, cost and hassle.
But, for peace of mind, you need to know you’ve selected the right agent. There are lots to choose from so how do you get it right?
Of course, local knowledge and reputation are important but your starting point should be to check out professional standards. Choosing an agent that has Propertymark accreditation is essential. It is this that guarantees high standards as the organisation holds all members accountable in order to protect consumers and their money. It’s also a good idea to make sure that your agent is a member of the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA)and registered with The Property Ombudsman. Like us, they will then be bound bya code of practice and be kept up to date with any changes in legislation.
